Alain Voge, Cornas

We've just landed a much anticipated shipment from one of the greatest names of Cornas; Alain Voge. Today the estate covers 6.5 hectare in Cornas and 4-plus hectare in St Péray from which they make brilliant organically farmed Syrah and Marsanne wines of tremendous purity and finesse.

"While the charming proprietor Alain Voge is still present at the winery, winemaker Albéric Mazoyer today is the leading force behind the incredible quality coming from Domaine Alain Voge. Previously working with Michel Chapoutier, Albéric came on board in 2004 in a part-time/managerial role, yet quickly left his position at Chapoutier to join Alain full time. The driver behind moving the vineyards to organic farming and opening up export markets, Albéric also raised the quality of the St Péray releases to another level, moving the aging to barrels and implementing numerous cuvees. From these they make up to three Cornas in a given vintage, and up to three, sometimes four, St Péray." — eRobertParker.com

"Albéric Mazoyer told me that he'll be surprised if the 2014s "ever really close up, because the fruit is so extroverted and the tannins are already harmonious." That's not to say that the wines won't age, such is their balance and depth of fruit. As elsewhere, production was down severely here in 2014, and Mazoyer decided, as with 2013, not to bottle the estate's flagship Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines. He opted instead to blend it into the other two bottlings "to maximize their quality, which was tremendous in 2014, even if the amount of wine wasn't so tremendous." — Vinous.com
