These wines always show a more elegant, polished style, with plenty of fruit, yet have gorgeous Southern Rhône characters, sweet tannin and serious length. In addition, they fashion some of the most incredible Côtes du Rhônes out there. The 2015s are certainly a step up from 2014 and lean towards the finesse-driven end of the spectrum. The terroirs of Le Clos du Caillou are very diversified as the vines are growing on a sandy soil with marl in basement, on Quartz pebbles but also on Safres. The sandy soils are located on the lieux-dits "Les Cailloux" and "Les Cassanets". The wines from these sandy soils are elegant, very fine, and usually deliver a more 'Burgundian' style. Natural cultural practices at Le Clos du Caillou were started with Claude Pouizin in 1950 and now Jean-Denis Vacheron has continued the organic agriculture approach when he arrived on the vineyard in 1996, with full certification from the 2010 vintage.
