Tardieu-Laurent 2016 & 2017

Domaine Tardieu-Laurent was established in 1994. It was a partnership established between Dominique Laurent (until 2008) - one of the hottest names in Burgundy, and Michel Tardieu - who is leading the new wave of dynamic, young Rhone winemakers. Michel Tardieu is is one of the most highly acclaimed négociants in the Rhône. His talents have been widely recognized for having secured long-term, hand-shake deals with 60-70 vignerons who carefully guard the location of their 50- to 100-plus-year-old vines. During the course of the year, Michel regularly visits the vignerons and walks their vineyards. When harvest and fermentation are complete, the wines are racked into Michel’s barrels and aged in his cellar. He is very much an “artisan” winemaker, producing small quantities of wine which are aged in a combination of small oak casks, large foudres and wooden tanks as the Tardieus believe that “the extra time they allow for élevage gives better texture and aromatic complexity”. The wines are bottled with no fining nor filtration.

“Michel Tardieu has exceptional knowledge about some of the finest vineyards and grape sources in both the northern and southern Rhône...”
Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate

"There aren’t many vintages that are as reflective of their place as the 2016's are at Bastien and Michel Tardieu's impeccably cared-for cellar in Lourmarin, which is also one of the most beautiful villages in France. Bastien says the wines’ clarity and delineation “was clear from the beginning of fermentation” and that he and his father believe that even their Cornas and Hermitage bottlings will be showing well by their fifth birthday. This domaine is still a somewhat under-the-radar source for top-notch northern Rhône wines and that’s a result of the Tardieu’s well-earned fame as producers of Châteauneuf-du-Pape..."
— Josh Raynolds, June 2018

We have a very small allocation (just a few cases of each) from Tardieu-Laurent's old vine vineyard selections from the Northern Rhone Valley. Direct from the roasted slopes of Côte Rôtie - believed to be one of the most perfect vineyard sites in the entire world - and through Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and the spectacular hill of Hermitage, Marcel Tardieu produces his wines from some of the most sort after plots in the appellation - the majority of which contain 50-100 year old vines.
