Fontella Chianti DOCG 2015
90 POINTS: James Suckling
Glorious Chianti, Italy's best-known red wine. 20 years ago Chianti was synonymous with the wicker-covered flasks of cheap plonk found in every Italian restaurant. Today the Chianti region boasts some of the world's finest wines. But it also produces loads of food-friendly bargains that somehow always seem a little more 'grown-up' than most other comparably priced quaffers.
Fontella is a traditional Chianti, being predominantly Sangiovese with a splash of Canaiolo and Colorino. Medium-bodied and easy-drinking in
… style, it is stainless steel fermented to maximise freshness and fruit expression. The resulting soft, harmonious flavours of dark cherry, plum, chocolate and marzipan make this wine taste like it could be three times the price.
