Ceretto Barolo 'Prapo' 2003
Ceretto Barolo 'Prapo' 2003 Ceretto's Prapo vineyard is in the commune of Serralunga. Most often Prapo bottlings are big and brooding with real complexity. The 2003 has the coffee, chocolate/cherry and tobacco you expect from Serralunga Barolo, this will easily age at least a decade. The estate's 2003 Barolo Prapo offers candied plums, licorice, baking spices and dark fruit with outstanding length. This poised, pretty Barolo needs another year or two to integrate its tannins and should drink well to at least age 15. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018. 91/100 Robert Parker Vibrant aromas of sour red cherry, smoky plum, the tell-tale Serralunga licorice, and truffle and woodsy underbrush. Silky on entry, then minerally, brisk and firm in the middle, with a penetrating quality to the red cherry, strawberry, gunflint, tar and licorice flavours. The long finish features mounting tannins that avoid coming off as astringent.90/100 Stephen Tanzer
