Weinbach Gewurztraminer 'Altenberg Cuvée Laurence' 2002
Weinbach Gewurztraminer 'Altenberg Cuvée Laurence' 2002 This domaine is named after a small stream winding through the estate, its literal translation "wine brook". The domaine was established in 1612 by Capucin monks. In 1898 it was purchased by the Faller brothers: Théodore and Jean-Baptiste. It was Théo who established Weinbach’s reputation. When he passed away in 1979, wife Collette and daughters Laurence and Cathérine took the helm and have continued the domaine's unswerving commitment to absolute quality. "Big, spicy, youthfully unevolved nose dominated by yellow fruits. Dense but very bright, with highly complex, rot-ennobled flavours of nectarine, soft citrus fruits and poppy seed, along with an intriguing smoky aspect. Like most of these 2002 Gewürztraminers, this is much higher in acidity than the corresponding 2001. Finishes very long and spicy."- 92/100 Stephen Tanzer
