Grosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Grosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009 5 Stars - The Melbourne Age 92/100 - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front This 55:45 blend of Clare Valley Semillon and Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc is one shy of its twentieth vintage giving it a longer history than most examples of the popular early drinking blend. The wine is regarded by most critics as consistently the best, or among the best, expressions of the style. Grosset felt that the 2008 was the best vintage yet of the Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc and may well be a trifle embarrassed at how good the 2009 is. In quality terms, there is a hairs-breadth between the two vintages. The 2009 Grosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is a trifle young at present, still a bit reserved, but with such fabulous intensity of flavour that it's hard to resist even now. There's a mini-explosion of passionfruit, guava and jackfruit flavours, pristine, refreshing and tangy, a vibrant, zesty mid-palate tautness before the tight structure leads to a finish that shows slatey, minerally overtones and bright, natural acidity. At present, it is the intensity that is the hallmark of the wine. There's complexity, succulence and finesse that will assert themselves, even in the short term. If you've loved this wine in previous years you'll be pleased that the line continues. - Jeffery Grosset
