Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape 'Vieilles Vignes' 2009
Offers a deep, dark well of lush plum cake, hoisin sauce, roasted fig and cassis notes that seems to power on endlessly, while roasted mesquite, iron and incense fill in the background. Hefty but remarkably rounded, with a long, charcoal- and black tea-filled finish. Built to be one of the longer-lived wines of the vintage. Best from 2014 through 2030.
- 96/100 Wine Spectator

Glass-staining ruby. High-pitched, precise aromas of crushed raspberry, smoky minerals, potpourri and licorice. Then juicy and penetrating, with great energy to its palate-staining red fruit preserve flavors. Very firmly structured but betrays no hard edges. Finishes sweet and spicy, displaying outstanding clarity.
- 95/100 Stephen Tanzer

A tiny amount (300 cases) of 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes has been produced. Nearly 100% Grenache made from extremely low yields and aged in stainless steel as well as in the triangular wood cuves called tronconique, it is a deep, rich, full-bodied effort with lots of black raspberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with notions of spring flowers, licorice, pepper and garrigue. This cuvee is produced from the estate’s three oldest parcels in La Crau, Gallimardes and Esquirons, and is capable of lasting 20-25 years, although the 2009 probably has a 12-18 year window of drinkability.
