Occhipinti 'SP68' 2009
Occhipinti 'SP68' 2009 The SP68 name comes from a highway near Arianna’s home town of Vittoria. It's a rtelatively new addition to her range that blends Frappato with Nero d’Avola in the style of Cerasuolo di Vittoria. The result is bloody interesting wine actually. The nose is lifted and wild with cranberry and raspberry aromas and a curious sultana or muscat-like note. It comes across very fresh and light on its feet. On the palate it is still on the lighter side but with much more serious structure than you might expect from the nose - kind of like a Cru Beaujolais. It is truly dry on the palate with dusty, earthy and very fine tannins. More raspberry and bramble flavours and the trademark earthiness from the Frappato grape. Given time and air this wine becomes more than just interesting it becomes downright delicious. This is new, uncharted territory for all adventurous red wine drinkers.
