Olmo's Reward is named after Dr Harold Olmo, the Californian viticulturist who in 1956 first identified the potential of the Frankland River region to produce premium wines.
This is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Malbec with a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon also included. Opaque black dark red colour with a bright dark purple hue. Aromas of subtle blackcurrant and dark cherries meet up with a hint of black olive, cedary cigar box characters, earth and spice. Medium weight and very elegant the palate features a refined flavour profile of subtle blackcurrants mixed with dark cherries, a touch of earth, cedar and spice. Slightly dryish fine grained tannins with the mouthfeel being a touch restrained. Long aftertaste of dark cherries, subtle blackcurrant, faint cigar box, earth and spicy cedar.
Quality is consistent. Deeper bouquet and flavor than most Cali Zins. The Earth tones come thru beautifully about two years from Vintage. Wonderful
Red to contemplate on its own or with good food.
chianti at a good price- good value for everyday drinking
Not quite in same class as recent chianti from Wine Direct released earlier this year-but also half the price. Excellent value for a red wine: you don't have to worry about finding a superior food to match at this excellent price.
Hard pushed to find a NZ red at this price/quality ratio!
