Central Otago
The most southerly wine region in the world, Central Otago was first identified for its serious Pinot potential way back in 1895 by Italian viticulturalist Romeo Bragato. It's a measure of the success of the ‘brand’ and the appeal of its full-bodied Pinot Noirs that the region has experienced a 350 percent increase in the vines planted there. And in case there was any doubt, this really is Pinot Noir Central - the variety makes up 75 percent of the region's vineyards overall.
