"An opulent, juicy, flavour-packed, hedonistic wine that perfectly encapsulates the generosity of the variety." - Steve Bennett MW
Primitivo comes from the Latin “primativus” meaning “first to ripen” and it is one of the first grape varieties to be harvested in Italy: in Puglia, its main area, this means August. This variety arrived was officially recognized in Puglia in 1881 but had been in the region for hundreds of years and has Croatian parentage.
Inky, opulent, full-bodied wine with ripe blueberry/black cherry characters with hints of Mediterranean vegetation and powerful but well-rounded tannins. It is a fantastic match for red meat and strong cheeses and offers more flavour for your dollar than virtually any other wine on the market.
Quality is consistent. Deeper bouquet and flavor than most Cali Zins. The Earth tones come thru beautifully about two years from Vintage. Wonderful
Red to contemplate on its own or with good food.
chianti at a good price- good value for everyday drinking
Not quite in same class as recent chianti from Wine Direct released earlier this year-but also half the price. Excellent value for a red wine: you don't have to worry about finding a superior food to match at this excellent price.
Hard pushed to find a NZ red at this price/quality ratio!
